Product Description

Pulsatron Series HV Metering Pump

The Pulsatron Series HV Metering Pump is designed for precise dosing of high-viscosity chemicals. It can handle fluids with viscosities up to 20,000 cP when installed with flooded suction. Therefore, it suits industrial processes where standard chemical-feed pumps may struggle with thicker fluids.

The pump provides manual adjustment of both stroke rate and stroke length. Moreover, automatic-control versions are available with either a direct 4–20 mA input or external pulse pacing. As a result, users can select manual or process-responsive dosing control.

Five models cover different flow and pressure requirements. The range provides pressure capabilities up to 150 psi and flow capacities up to 37.9 litres per hour. In addition, metering performance is reproducible within ±2% of maximum capacity.

Manual and Automatic Control

Manual stroke-rate and stroke-length controls allow operators to adjust chemical output while the pump is operating. Each control provides a 10:1 turndown ratio. Consequently, the combined overall turndown ratio reaches 100:1.

Automatic-control options include a direct 4–20 mA input or external pacing with a stop function. Therefore, the high-viscosity metering pump can respond to compatible process controllers, flowmeters or pulse-producing instruments.

In addition, an Auto-Off-Manual switch supports straightforward operation. Panel-mounted indicator lights also provide visible operating feedback.

Key Features

The Pulsatron Series HV Metering Pump includes the following features:

  • Viscosity capability up to 20,000 cP
  • Manual stroke-rate adjustment
  • Manual stroke-length adjustment
  • Overall turndown ratio of 100:1
  • Optional direct 4–20 mA control
  • Optional external pacing with stop function
  • Auto-Off-Manual operating switch
  • Panel-mounted indicator lights
  • Guided ball check valve system
  • Reliable electronic timing circuit
  • Voltage and current upset protection
  • Thermal-overload protection with automatic reset
  • Water-resistant construction
  • Continuous-duty rating
  • Leak-free, sealless diaphragm liquid end

Moreover, the guided ball check valve system helps reduce backflow. As a result, it supports dependable priming and more consistent chemical feed.

High-Viscosity Chemical Handling

The high-viscosity diaphragm pump can handle fluids up to 20,000 cP. However, Pulsafeeder specifies that a flooded-suction installation is required at this viscosity level.

In a flooded-suction arrangement, the chemical supply level remains above the pump inlet. Consequently, gravity helps maintain a positive liquid supply to the suction connection.

This installation requirement is especially important for thick or slow-flowing chemicals. Therefore, viscosity, temperature, suction-pipe size and supply-tank position should be reviewed before selecting the pump.

The PTFE-faced and CSPE-backed diaphragm separates the chemical from the drive mechanism. In addition, the sealless liquid-end design helps reduce potential leakage points.

Protection and Continuous Operation

The pump includes circuit protection against voltage and current disturbances. Moreover, thermal-overload protection helps protect the solenoid and provides automatic reset.

The enclosure is water-resistant for suitable indoor and outdoor applications. However, the pump must still be installed according to the manufacturer’s environmental and electrical requirements.

The Series HV is also rated for continuous duty. Therefore, it can support ongoing chemical-feed processes when operated within the published limits.

Performance Range

The Pulsatron Series HV Metering Pump range includes five performance models:

  • LVB3: Up to 1.9 LPH at 150 psi
  • LVF4: Up to 3.8 LPH at 150 psi
  • LVG4: Up to 7.6 LPH at 110 psi
  • LVG5: Up to 15.1 LPH at 110 psi
  • LVH7: Up to 37.9 LPH at 80 psi

Additional technical data includes:

  • Maximum stroke frequency: 125 strokes per minute
  • Stroke-frequency turndown ratio: 10:1
  • Stroke-length turndown ratio: 10:1
  • Overall turndown ratio: 100:1
  • Metering reproducibility: ±2% at maximum capacity
  • Electrical supply: 115 VAC or 230 VAC
  • Supply frequency: 50–60 Hz, single phase
  • Maximum viscosity: 20,000 cP with flooded suction

Therefore, model selection must consider both the required flow and discharge pressure. Maximum flow and maximum pressure are not available from the same model.

Applications in India

The Pulsatron Series HV Metering Pump can support industrial processes across India where thick liquids require controlled injection.

Typical applications include:

  • Polymer and coagulant dosing
  • Water and wastewater treatment
  • Industrial chemical processing
  • Food-processing chemical feed
  • Paint, coating and resin production
  • Pulp and paper processing
  • Textile chemical dosing
  • Adhesive and additive dosing
  • Process-water treatment
  • General high-viscosity fluid metering

For example, the pump may be considered for compatible polymers, treatment additives and viscous process chemicals. However, the complete operating conditions and wetted-material compatibility must be checked before use.

Approvals and Configuration

The current Pulsafeeder Series HV technical sheet states conformity to ANSI/NSF Standard 50. However, approval coverage may vary according to the selected pump configuration and application.

Available Pump-Head Materials

  • Glass-filled polypropylene
  • PVC

Available Ball Materials

  • PTFE
  • 316 stainless steel
  • Alloy C

Meanwhile, seat and O-ring options include PTFE, CSPE and Viton. Pulsafeeder also recommends a PVC wetted end for sodium hypochlorite applications.

Therefore, the selected materials must be reviewed against the chemical, concentration and operating temperature.

Product Selection Information

Before selecting a Pulsatron Series HV Metering Pump, confirm:

  • Chemical name and concentration
  • Chemical viscosity
  • Required dosing capacity
  • Maximum discharge pressure
  • Liquid temperature
  • Flooded-suction availability
  • Suction-pipe conditions
  • Available electrical supply
  • Preferred control method
  • Wetted-material compatibility
  • Required certification

Providing complete process information improves pump selection. Moreover, it helps determine whether the required viscosity can be handled reliably under the proposed installation conditions.
