FTI SP Series Self-Priming Pumps

The FTI SP Series Self-Priming Pumps are horizontal, sealless magnetic-drive centrifugal pumps developed for transferring corrosive and chemically aggressive liquids. Their self-priming design allows compatible fluids to be drawn from sumps, tankers, reservoirs and storage tanks positioned below the pump.

Finish Thompson offers the SP10, SP11, SP15 and SP22 models in polypropylene or PVDF construction. Across the complete self-priming pump range, published performance reaches approximately 57.5 m³/h of flow and 50 metres of head.

Sealless Magnetic-Drive Technology

The Finish Thompson SP pump transfers motor torque through a sealed containment barrier. Therefore, no rotating shaft passes through the pump casing.

This magnetic-drive design eliminates the conventional mechanical shaft seal and its associated leakage point. Consequently, the sealless chemical pump can reduce seal replacement requirements and support reliable containment of compatible corrosive liquids.

Moreover, the enclosed magnetic coupling helps separate the process liquid from the external motor. As a result, the pump is suitable for chemical-transfer applications where leakage prevention and dependable operation are important.

Key Features and Benefits

The FTI SP chemical pump range provides:

  • Self-priming centrifugal operation
  • Sealless magnetic-drive construction
  • Maximum flow up to 57.5 m³/h
  • Maximum head up to 50 metres
  • Suction lift up to 7.6 metres
  • Priming from 5.5 metres in approximately 90 seconds
  • Working pressure up to 6.2 bar
  • Polypropylene or PVDF construction
  • Specific-gravity capability above 1.8
  • Viscosity capability above 50 cP
  • NPT, BSP, flange and union connections
  • NEMA and IEC motor compatibility
  • Close-coupled installation
  • Back pull-out maintenance design
  • CE, UKCA and EAC certification

Together, these features allow the FTI SP Series Self-Priming Pumps to support demanding chemical-transfer systems while simplifying installation, operation and planned maintenance.

Fast Self-Priming Performance

The pump casing retains liquid after shutdown. Therefore, a correctly installed SP self-priming pump can re-prime without requiring an external check valve.

Finish Thompson states that suitable configurations can prime from a depth of approximately 5.5 metres in around 90 seconds. In addition, selected models can lift fresh, cold water from depths up to 7.6 metres under suitable operating conditions.

However, actual priming performance depends on the liquid properties, suction-pipe diameter, pipe length, air leakage, motor speed and installation layout. Therefore, the suction system must be designed carefully to achieve reliable operation.

Polypropylene and PVDF Construction

Polypropylene SP pumps handle compatible liquids at temperatures up to approximately 82°C. Alternatively, PVDF models support temperatures up to approximately 104°C and provide different chemical-resistance characteristics.

Available shaft materials include:

  • Ceramic
  • Hastelloy C
  • Silicon carbide

Depending on the model, bushing options include carbon, PTFE, alumina ceramic and silicon carbide.

Consequently, users can configure the Finish Thompson self-priming pump according to the chemical concentration, operating temperature and required wear resistance. However, complete material compatibility must be confirmed before final selection.

SP10, SP11, SP15 and SP22 Models

The range includes several hydraulic sizes:

  • SP10: 1-inch connections and up to 12.2 m³/h at 2,900 RPM
  • SP11: 1.5-inch connections and up to 24 m³/h at 2,900 RPM
  • SP15: 1.5-inch connections and up to 25.8 m³/h at 2,900 RPM
  • SP22: 2-inch connections and up to 47.9 m³/h at 2,900 RPM

Higher series performance may be available at 3,450 RPM. Therefore, engineers should select each SP Series pump from its individual performance curve at the required flow, head, frequency and motor speed.

Process Connections and Motor Options

Depending on the selected model, process connections may include:

  • NPT threaded connections
  • BSP threaded connections
  • Adjustable flanges
  • Union connections

The FTI SP Series Self-Priming Pumps can also connect to compatible NEMA and IEC motor frames. Therefore, the motor voltage, frequency, enclosure and efficiency class can be matched with installation requirements across India.

Moreover, the close-coupled design reduces the required installation space. Meanwhile, the back pull-out arrangement allows technicians to access the hydraulic components without unnecessarily disturbing the connected pipework.

Applications in India

The FTI SP self-priming pump range may support:

  • Chemical tanker unloading
  • Rail-tanker unloading
  • Bulk-storage tank transfer
  • Sump and reservoir pumping
  • Below-grade chemical tanks
  • Over-the-wall fluid transfer
  • Rinse-water circulation
  • Electroplating and anodising
  • Chemical-processing systems
  • Corrosive wastewater transfer

For example, a PVDF self-priming magnetic-drive pump may transfer a compatible aggressive chemical from a below-grade storage tank. Similarly, a polypropylene model may move suitable rinse water or treatment chemicals from a sump into a processing system.

Selecting the Correct FTI SP Pump

Correct selection depends on:

  • Required flow and total dynamic head
  • Vertical suction lift
  • Chemical name and concentration
  • Liquid temperature
  • Viscosity and specific gravity
  • Available NPSH
  • Construction material
  • Shaft and bushing materials
  • Connection standard
  • Motor voltage, frequency and speed

Therefore, users should configure the FTI SP Series Self-Priming Pumps around the complete hydraulic and chemical duty. Excessive suction lift, incompatible materials or unsuitable suction piping may prevent reliable priming and reduce component life.

Why Choose Finish Thompson SP Pumps?

Finish Thompson SP pumps combine self-priming capability with sealless magnetic-drive containment. Moreover, corrosion-resistant thermoplastic construction, multiple hydraulic sizes and flexible motor arrangements support varied chemical-transfer requirements.

As a result, the SP chemical pump range provides a dependable solution for facilities across India requiring fluid transfer from tankers, sumps, reservoirs and below-grade storage tanks.
